APRIL OMG Accomplished~ A Quilt For Christine

At the beginning of April I set a goal to get a commission quilt top pieced together. You can read the post at "A Quilt for Christine".

To be honest, I am not very excited over this one as I have no clear direction where I want to go with it. I've had a lot of difficulty putting this out on the sewing table. The request is for a Shabby Chic Style quilt...... What is your vision for a Shabby Chic quilt?

So one rainy day this week, I finally got those stack of squares I have been toting around with me in the trunk of my car and squared them up to 20"x20" and stitched them together. It turned out really pretty, but I am still looking for that one thing that will set it apart and give me enthusiasm and pride over it. I am considering some shabby cut flowers. What would you do?

  2. I think you nailed it with the color palette. Shabby chic makes me think of Joanna Gaines style (of Fixer Upper or Magnilia Market), if that helps any!

    1. Funny enough, the request was for a turquoise and greys colors quilt.. I went browsing at a local shop and Waaaa LAAA, I found those fabulous roses in those exact colors!

  4. Some appliqué flowers might just give it that something you feel missing . Or a strong binding

  5. This is so soft and pretty! I'm also thinking some flowers in the light to medium coral would look great. Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers!

    1. You are absolutely right on! I may have to go against the customer's thoughts on only greys and teals. The coral colors were added just because there no eye appeal for me~

  6. This truly does say shabby chic to me. It's a beautiful quilt top. Others have mentioned some applique flowers. That would look good...or some other random applique that you feels fits nicely with the quilt.

  7. This is wonderful! Your color selection is perfect. It reads teal and blue with just a touch of coral so your customer should be so happy! I agree with the idea of adding shabby cut flowers in coral. When I googled shabby chic quilt, I saw lots of florals and cream and lacy touches, so that's the right direction I'm thinking. Thank you so much for linking up to Wednesday Wait Loss!

    1. I was wondering if lace was outdated for a young and modern gal? Still not sure, I do see lots of young ladies wearing those shortie shorts with lace trims on the bottom.~

  9. These soft colors are wonderful for a shabby chic look! Jennifer's comment made me think about lace binding/edging for this quilt. Or maybe appliqueing strips of lace around some of the blocks.

I completely understand how hard it can be to stay motivated to work on a quilt that isn't your personal taste or style. I hope you find your mojo to finish this pretty piece :)
