Aurifil Designer of the Month ~ Hanalei Garden

Working Strictly from the scrap basket...no yardage, no fat quarters - no stash! I am sewing up the 2019 Aurifil Designer of the Month. You can read all about the designers and get the Free patterns at the link.

This month's designer block is called Hanalei Garden by Natalie Barnes, and here is my scrappy version.

The Quilted Cat

I love re-purposed items, saved from the depths of the garbage dump. This collection of quilted items are just darling. Spotted at the Spencer Antique Mall in Spencer, WV. That old pump organ... to right at the back of the setting... only $50 !!! Can you believe it! Visit the store only until February 28th then closing their doors.

February OMG ~ Madelyn's Quilt

Surely Enough, the quilt was gifted without a full size photo! But..... here is a cute little photo of the stitching. I used loopy loops and stars all over, with some fun words written into the quilting. Encouraging words such as dream, live, love, hope, be yourself... What little girl wouldn't sit and day dream of future self with such inspiration!

Sunroom SunShine

No Sewing Involved ~ This needed to be done for quite some time now. The cushions were covered with old vinyl and were falling off, the chip board inside was rotten. It just needed Done! I searched for a before photo....none that would show the serious mess of a shape they were in, but the final outcome? Gorgeous!

Dust Off A Quilt Book Just in Time for Spring!

Today is my stop on the hop for  Dust off A Quilt Book Blog Hop Challenge with Bea at Beaquilter.  Easy - find an old quilting book,  Not so easy - decide which book and make a project from it! I've been wanting to do this for quite a while now and so glad that Bea offered us this challenge!

In a previous post I shared that my project would be in anticipation of Easter and Spring, I chose Country Quilts for Friends by Margaret Peters & Anne Sutton - Published by C&T Publishing, 2004.

I decided upon a lovely Spring quilt with a bunny in the center. And it has bees, I love bees! The fabrics chosen are

Flora and Fawn by Amanda Herring for Riley Blake Designs

So Pretty! The quilt is going to be used as a wall hanging for Spring, then maybe gifted to my sweet little grand daughter.

I free motion quilted on my domestic with just randomness, some outlining and little flower drawings. See the bees in the quilting?
And I blanket stitched the binding on, I enjoy the vintage feel that a blanket stitch provides. Complete with some pretty, flowery pink fabric for backing.

And a GiveAway in Honor of Old Books
I'll be giving away one of my "old" books,  Designing Patchwork. Let me know in the comments below "How many quilts have you made with bees on it and the name of the pattern?" Give away will be open until Monday Feb 25th.
Winner of the Drawing from the comments section is Carla from Creatin' in the Sticks!!!!

And a Bonus, I used up more of the fabric from the bundle for a a Sister Quilt! I used Pat Sloan's Oh My Stars! pattern. This will be used in my recliner. Wink! It still needs quilted and binding added, so that will become a March Project OMG with Patty at Elm Street Quilts.
                                                         March Link Up

Amazingly there is still lots left over with this fun bundle, about 3/4 of yard went to my grandbaby for some adorable bibs! I can't wait to use more of this! It is definitely a win for Spring! Thanks for joining me at Dust Off an Old Quilt Book!

And don't forget to visit everyone that has put in so much effort spring cleaning at the hop!

Practice! Practice!

For a long time now I have been trying to get this free-motion quilting on your own domestic machine technique down pat. I must admit, it has been more than frustrating but I do believe perseverance is Winning!

These are the latest two free-motion attempts and I'm willing to actually display the photos.

I used a cuddly flannel for each of the backings to make them more appealing to the recipients as there are still quite a few fumbles in the quilting...but as the quote goes.......     Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance!

Antique Quilt Sighting

I enjoy browsing the quilts in antique markets, sometimes taking a photo, mostly not. When I do take a photo, I like to share.

I normally do not purchase either, I am not a collector. I've only purchase two over the years. I do enjoy their beauty and the inspiration they may bring. I hope my quilt sightings give you inspiration to sew and create today ~

This one is from a small South Carolina shop and displayed so beautifully.

February OMG - Birthday Quilt

This was supposed be gifted November 2018.
I never got it quilted, and now is the best time to get it done. I am striking off WIP's and UFO's in 2019 and have been selecting quilt tops that are lying around that need to be quilted. Either practicing free-motion or sending them off to my long-arm quilter - they Must get Done!
