I used the Go! Sunbonnet Sue Fabric Die from Accuquilt to cut out lots of these cute little appliques and blanket stitched in black around several to achieve a faux-vintage look.
You can find the Sunbonnet Sue embroidery designs here. I used the blanket stitch feature on my domestic machine and achieved the same look if you want to give that a try as well.
I discovered someone dear to me had a baby!! Exciting!!! I found some adorable butterfly fabrics to incorporate into the sashing and border to tone down those vibrant pinks and purples. I love the way the flimsy has turned out!
Now on to getting the quilting completed and sending this off to the sweet little babe!

It will make a very sweet quilt to gift to the new baby!
ReplyDeleteI agree! This one is reminiscent of how my grandmother's quilts looked. She did almost all applique - flowers of all kinds with the black blanket stitch outline. I'm looking forward to gathering more time to get it completed.
DeleteHow sweet is this! It's so precious in the pinks and purples.
ReplyDeleteThanks Bobbi! I was worried about color overload when I first started piecing it together. I love how the softness of the sashing worked it all out.
DeleteHi Anita,
ReplyDeleteI just love Sunbonnet Sue. That is one of the very first wall hangings I made long ago, and still look at it every day as it's hanging on the back door. That is one lucky baby and new mom, and I am certain they will love it and feel all the love you stitched into it. Now how are you going to quilt it? I love seeing close up pictures of that so be sure you share some! I'm going to follow you so I don't miss any updates. I hope the new mom shares a photo when she receives the quilt - that would be really cool! Happy Wednesday! ~smile~ Roseanne
Roseanne, you will have to share a post about it. I am very new to quilting and have attempted the domestic machine free-motion quilting and was frustrated by it. I've tried out some longarms and Love Love Love the results. I may have to rent it to do a nice butterfly motif~ I will definitely share a finish :) Have a blessed day!
Deletethanks so much for linking up!

ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer! I adore the blanket stitch feature on my machine. It is one of my favorite all time stitches!
DeleteJust adorable! Sue never looked better!
ReplyDeleteRight! I think she is adorable!
DeleteSome of those fabrics look like they could have been feedsacks! Darling baby quilt, and it will be loved, I am sure. I use that stitch a lot on both my machines. It's very handy!
ReplyDeleteAmazingly the fabrics were from several fat quarter bundles! They were perfect for the vintage look!
