Virtual Cookie Exchange - Day 2

I must confess - I love, love, love cookie tins! And I honestly do love those sugar cookies that come inside.

Flipping through social media sites, there are always those funny memes when you think there just might be some cookies inside but instead, there is a stash of buttons, threads or other sewing supplies. Who still does that? Who's grandmother or mum had scores of buttons inside?

What about those of us that are dreaming of opening that tin and finding some cool stash but find cookies instead! What a laugh indeed!

Time to get munching on these so I have a beautiful little tin for more fun goodies to store in it!
And for a Fabulous chocolate chip cookie recipe, I've loved this one ever since Crisco started making their Butter Flavored Crisco - Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie. It is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe I've seen in over 25 years!

Just to make life more fun, I would love to see what you have in your cookie tin! Enter at the Linky Party Below!
(just a side note: this a trial for me! I've not hosted a linky party before! Wish me success with it!) And don't forget to visit all the other participants this year!

  1. I like those sugar cookies in the tin too (and I like the tins). I have several tins full of buttons from my grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, and even one I started when I was young(er). :) That choc chip cookie recipe is a great one. Thanks for sharing.

    1. Very fortunate! I wonder if there are many people that actually utilize them or like to treasure them, scoop them in there hands and let them run through there fingers like "real" treasure?

  2. Digging in my grandmother's button tin was a favorite thing when I was a kid. She didn't use this tin, but several women in my hometown did!

  3. I just purchased one of these tins over the weekend. I hadn't even thought of the ones my grandmother had stashed with sewing items. I'm super happy about it now. THANK YOU for that sweet memory. Good luck with the linky. I'll come back when it opens and share my post from today.

    1. I always thought the one my grandmother had was a treasure trove! I was always sitting there picking the old shirt fabrics off the button where they were snipped from old shirts!

  4. My gr-grandmother, grandmother, and mom had those tins of buttons. I had one, too, but traded it for a plastic container a few years ago. I wish I had kept it...maybe I'll go buy a new one! A tin is much better than plastic anyway. I love those type of cookies in a tin. Not homemade, but perfect with hot cocoa. Thanks for hopping along with us and sharing that link to your favorite cookie...yum! xo

    1. The memories of loved ones long gone are often triggered by the simplest of items, and this one is always a treasured one!

  5. Hi Anita! My grandmother and mother always stored buttons in those cookie tins. I still have a really, really old one with really, really old buttons in it. I need to dig that out and take a look at some of them again. What a fun idea for your linky party but it opens in 2 hours. Good luck with it! Happy Happy Wednesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

    1. Thanks for the wishes Roseanne, I've attempted to fix the linky although there are few options to work with in it to correct a date. Hopefully the next time I try this it will be how I expect it to turn out! Kind Regards,

  6. Oh that cookie tin reminds me of my grandparents! They would buy them year round and you never knew what you might find in the recycled tins. They were in the china painting room, the kitchen, the pantry, the shop and closets! A guessing game with every turn. Merry Quiltmas! MelvaLovesScraps at NolanQualityCustoms dot com

  9. I love collecting tins too (especially ones that come with cookies inside first!). I'd love to find buttons filling a tin! My grandmother and mother both had tins with sewing supplies and weird-to-me tools that I now cherish!

  12. Anita, Do you think these will taste better with shortening rather than using actual butter? I love those old tins and yes, I still have my grandmother's button collection stored in an old one. Thanks so much for sharing.

  13. Hi, Anita, what a great linky idea! I love tins, and there might be cookies in some at Christmas, but there are often other things at other times of the year - threads for sure. I will take a photo tomorrow and make a post to link!

  14. I just fooled my daughter with this recently! I keep my buttons in a cookie tin. My husband just brought home the loveliest tin full of cookies and once it is empty I'll be filling it with sewing treasures too!

  17. I love those cookie tins!! And the cookies!! LOL Somewhere I have my mom's sewing tin. It was in a Charles Chips tin. I will see if I can dig it out. It's very special to me because she never sewed on a machine, but she loved doing hand work. So anything I made clothes-wise, she would hem or tack down for me! I sure miss her - though I've grown to love hand work more now! Thanks for sharing!

  20. Chocolate chip cookies are always wonderful. I have buttons in one of my cookie tins and the other has all the stuff I need when I take my sewing machine to outings, things like but not limited to thread, bobbins, scissors, rotory cutter and blades spare eye glasses and of course a ripper.

  21. I have a cookie tin that holds all of the "extra" feet for my sewing machine, along with a spool of clear quilting thread. Another has machine sewing needles, and a tiny one has a hand-sewing kit. None with cookies yet, but I haven't started baking for the holidays.
